History

Teaching is by a combination of lecture and tutorial format.  Students are expected to read and note ahead of the lessons and to respond to questions and discussion in every session.  Wider reading is encouraged. 

A2 Units - AQA

HIS3D:The British Monarchy: a crisis of state? 1642-1689

  • One 90 minute examination paper
  • Students answer two unstructured essay questions from a list of three.
  • There is a strong emphasis on historiography and students are urged to read well beyond the prescribed text.

 
HIS 4X Historical Enquiry

  • An essay of up to 3,500 words and an evaluation of sources of up to 500 words.
  • The question, which must cover a period of at least 100 years, must be agreed with the tutor and approved by AQA.
  • The tutor will teach a short introductory course.
  • Research and writing must be the student’s own unaided work.
  • Students are expected to submit their finished work by the last day of the spring term. This is to allow time for internal marking and administrative procedures, and also to leave students free to concentrate upon preparation for the summer examinations.
