AS Level Subjects
AS stands for Advanced Subsidiary and A for Advanced level; in general, AS level courses last for one year, at the end of which students then progress to A level for a further year’s study. Students who have already studied to AS or A level may choose to take all of the AS and A level units in one year as an Intensive Course.
Advanced levels remain the gold standard in the English system. Every university in the UK, USA and worldwide will accept A levels as a way of meeting their entry requirements. To enter the best universities, students will normally take three full A level subjects together with one subject to AS level.
AS levels may be taken in January or June. A student taking a two year A level course would sit the AS level examinations in June, after a full year of study. A student taking the intensive one year A level course would take the AS level examinations in January, that is, after just one term of study.
Advanced level examinations are normally taken in June though some subjects would have the provision for students to take certain modules in January.
