What is Business Studies?

Which subjects combine well with Business Studies? Business combines with any other arts or science subjects at IGCSE.

What can Business Studies lead to? A good grade at IGCSE can enable you to go on to study for AS GCE Business or an equivalent qualification.  In particular it helps students to:

  • focus on current business practice

  • be aware that information communication technology is essential to business decision making processes and success, and affects all functional areas of business.

What's assessed at IGCSE?

  1. Business Activity and the Changing Environment – examines the objectives of businesses, the changing environment and the criteria for judging success. The focus is on the importance of having clear business objectives and how the business environment provides opportunities for, and imposes constraints upon, the pursuit of those objectives.

  3. Accounting and Finance – explores the use of accounting and financial information as an aid to decision making.
  4. Marketing – focuses on identifying and satisfying customer needs in a changing and competitive international environment.
  5. Production – examines the way organisations use and manage resources to produce goods and services.

How is the subject assessed?

The assessment of this qualification is through a two-hour written examination paper, set and marked by Edexcel. There are 5 questions, each worth a total of 20 marks. The total number of marks available is 100.  Each question has a mixture of multiple choice questions and some short and longer answer questions.
