Art and Design

Why study Art?

The GCSE is a broad course where students can explore and develop ideas working in a range of media including painting and drawing, collage and assemblage.   Studying Art at GCSE level will encourage you to develop your ideas and improve your ability to work in a creative and exciting way.

Course Outline - AQA

Unit 1: 60% of total mark

Portfolio of work which must include more than one project.  The themes are set by the teacher but the students are encouraged to make a personal response.

Unit 2: 40% of total mark

Externally set task which culminates in a ten hour examination period, during which time the students will produce a final piece of work.

Both units are marked by the teacher and moderated by AQA through a visit to the College.

Classes are small and the students are encouraged to interact with their fellow students. Visits are made to galleries and museums, and neighbouring Holland Park and Kensington Gardens for sketching.

Successful students may continue their studies to A level.
