The Street

On Thursday, last week, A level Geography and Photography students were invited to the Rio Cinema, Hackney screening and Q and A of “The Street”, directed by Zed Nelson.  This documentary film focused on Gentrification of Hoxton Street and the changes in community.  Zed Nelson is an award winning Photo journalist who has moved to film making in recent years.  This hard hitting film highlights the stark reality of gentrification in one street very near the city of London.  Both a  heart wrenching and warming look at individuals, community and the very fabric of the city being changed by forces beyond their control.   We sat in the audience amongst the locals in the film and felt privileged to be allowed into their lives on screen.   This is certainly a film that inspires artistically and academically.
