History of David Game College

Established in 1974, David Game College has had a fascinating history that covers periods in different parts of London: namely South Kensington, Notting Hill Gate and the current location in the City of London. The genesis story of the College is based on a student that Mr Game, the Founder and current Co-Principal, was privately teaching who suggested that he start a College! From these humble beginnings, the College has grown over 100 times its original size to become a highly respected independent day and boarding College.

The current City of London site was acquired in 2016 after decades based in West London. The new setting is steeped in historical and modern landmarks - including Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, the Bank of England, Lloyds of London, the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater, the Walkie Talkie - which is fitting given the College’s own fascinating history, and how it has adapted and thrived to become a thoroughly modern private college in London. The College building had its foundation stone laid in 1899 by the Bishop of London, and has always been an educational establishment. The College building was previously occupied by London Guildhall and Metropolitan universities.

But the College site has connections that go back much further. Part of the original Roman Wall runs through it and is proudly displayed in the basement, which explains why the College magazine is called Londinium.

From the initial sole student who enrolled to the busy and progressive day and boarding school it is today, the evolution of David Game College perfectly illustrates the experience students can expect when becoming part of the community of this proudly independent College. Unique, forward-thinking, whilst retaining all that is valuable from our own history and traditions – David Game day and boarding provision represents the very best of progressive education in the UK.

We hope you enjoy this more comprehensive account of the history of David Game College from our Founder and Co-Principal Mr David Game, which is available in a short video below:

Celebrating 50 Years

Amidst the turbulence and unpredictability of our world, finding something enduring with steadfast core values brings immense reassurance. After 50 years, I firmly believe that David Game College embodies this stability.

My journey as Founder began in February 1974, and since then, I've had the privilege of steering the College through various academic and physical transformations, charting new courses along the way.

Our remarkable achievements are a testament to the dedication of our exceptional team, our unwavering determination, and our commitment to the principles and values that have guided us since our inception. From our humble beginnings, we've grown exponentially, now standing a hundred times stronger than in 1974. Today, we stand as a resilient, ambitious institution, poised for another half-century of success.

We take great pride in our magnificent building on Jewry Street, which secures the College's future for years to come. Additionally, our state-of-the-art modern premises adjacent to it mark the beginning of a new chapter, as David Game College proudly launched the first boarding school in the City of London in 2022.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue leading our team as we navigate new and challenging yet exhilarating educational opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we embark on this journey with unwavering determination, confident in our ability to overcome any obstacle and emerge stronger than ever before.

David Game MA (Oxon), MPhil (Lond) Founder & Co-Principal
