AS level Music Course

The College has chosen the AQA Music AS Level Music programme as it follows on seamlessly from the AQA GCSE course we offer. The AS Level is also a perfect accompaniment to other A Level Subjects and can be developed into a full A Level in Music as both the AS and A Level courses follow the same curriculum. The courses also have a substantial performance component, allowing students to study and perform genres that are of interest to them.

The AS Level Music course is a one-year course and can be a great addition to your other A Level subjects.

On the AS Music course you will:

  • Attend workshops taught by professionals
  • Receive one-to-one or small-group tuition for the composition and performance requirements
  • Be given opportunities to perform in and around David Game College

The AS in Music is incredibly creative and empowering, and as flexible to teach as it is to learn.  We've focused on practical skills, so students learn to compose and perform music across a variety of styles and enjoy the freedom to focus on a style or genre close to their heart.

The AS Level is split into three components:

  1. Exam 40%
  2. Music performance 30%
  3. Composition 30%

Students lay the foundations for further study or a musical career, and develop:

  • Self-confidence
  • Communication skills
  • Creativity
  • Critical analysis and evaluation skills

Students will need to be able to play an instrument, or sing, at a Grade 6 standard or above. An audition / interview with the Head of Music may be required.
