David Game Debate Society @ UCL ? Review

Our debate team successfully completed a trip to the annual school’s cup at UCL. We were taking on many schools, including some famous names such as St Paul’s Girls, Westminster Boys and Dulwich College. We are a young team, with 2014/15 being our maiden year competing in national school events (earlier in the year we took part in the Debating Matters event for 6th forms) so we were quite daunted in facing such experienced opponents. Not only that, but the debate format is British Parliamentary. Sharing some similarities with real parliamentary debates, this system takes some time to get used to, and has many quirks and features. However, David Game Debate Society did themselves proud. Despite a slow start, with some teething problems getting used to the quick pace of the interactions and handling numerous points of information (POIs) we eventually came into our own. After four rounds, and four different teams, our Society had claimed one victory and several high placed finishes. We are looking forward to what the future holds, and further progressing and improving from this year’s performance. All students are welcome and invited to join the society, and compete for themselves. See you at the next cup!
