Biology Field Work

Biology A level students travelled to Box Hill in Surrey where they stayed in the lovely Juniper Hall.  The weather was amazing, with temperatures in the 20's even though this was March!  The group obtained some pleasing results from their experiments and observations, conducted in the grounds of the house and also from the River Tillingbourne nearby.  The experiments involved ecological studies, looking at living organisms in their natural habitat.  Among the studies carried out were the relationship between the flow rate and oxygen concentration and the number and diversity of macro invertebrates in the River Tillingbourne.  In the woodland surrounding Juniper Hall the students looked at the distribution of ivy, moss and lichens on tree trunks to see the effect of aspect eg north or south facing, on growth.

The work was fulfil the requirements of Unit 6 of the A level Biology course.
