URGENT: All BRP cards will expire on 31 December 2024.
From January 2025, you will no longer be able to enter the UK with your BRP card. Instead, you will need to use your eVisa for re-entry or when accessing services that require proof of your immigration status. The eVisa will serve the same purpose as the BRP card in terms of proving the immigration status, but it will be digital rather than physical. Using the eVisa does not affect the immigration status or the conditions for staying or entering the UK. It will still have the same rights and conditions as the BRP card.
International students who are planning to leave the UK for the Christmas holidays should have already set up their UKVI account. This account is crucial for accessing and managing their eVisa. It allows students to check their visa status, track visa applications, and access essential information regarding their immigration status.
Before leaving the UK, students should log into their UKVI account to ensure they can access their eVisa details. It's essential that students verify their visa status is active and valid. Any issues or discrepancies with the visa should be addressed well before traveling.
Before heading to the airport for the return flight to the UK, students must create a share code through their UKVI account. Airline staff may ask to verify the student's immigration status before allowing them to board the return flight to the UK. They will use the share code to check that the student has the proper immigration status to enter the UK. Students should ensure it is accessible via their phone or in a printed form. If the share code is not provided, airline staff might refuse boarding or ask for additional documentation.
Upon arrival in the UK, the share code will serve as confirmation of the student’s status and will allow UK border officials to quickly verify the student’s eligibility to enter the country. The share code is typically valid for 90 days.
